Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructor (Part Time)

The Opportunity

Lotus Fitness and Thai Boxing is a well-regarded Muay Thai gym in Liberty Village, Toronto, known for our positive and inclusive culture. Additionally, our fight team includes Canadian National and IFMA Pan-American champions and we pride ourselves on delivering technical coaching.

After five successful years at our current location, we are doubling our square footage and wish to launch a new Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program.

We are seeking an experienced BJJ Instructor to help us build this program from the ground up. This is a part-time position designed for someone who is passionate about the sport and committed to cultivating a welcoming community.

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking an instructor who is an exceptional technical coach and, most importantly, a cultural fit.

  • Experience: A proven track record as a BJJ practitioner with teaching experience. Teaching kid’s programs is a plus.
  • Availability: Must be able to commit to part-time evening and/or weekend hours.
  • Location: Ideally lives or works close to Liberty Village for easy commuting.
  • Computer Skills: Familiar with iPad/Android devices, and competency with gym management software is a plus.
  • Part-Time Employment: As we are expanding into BJJ, this role is strictly a part-time evening/weekend position, so we are unable to offer full-time employment at this time.
  • Community & Values: You must share our gym’s core values:
    • Inclusivity & Respect: You must be committed to creating an equitable and respectful training environment for people of all backgrounds, identities, and skill levels.
    • Progressive Mindset: We are looking for individuals who actively foster an atmosphere free of toxicity, misogyny, or discrimination. We are a progressive and diversity-focused gym.

What’s the Role Like:

  • Arrive 15 minutes before the start of class to go through our Gym Opening procedures
  • Greet our First Time visitors and give them a tour of the facility, explain how class works, and get them ready for a successful class
  • Greeting Existing members as they enter the gym and verify they are registered to attend
  • Lead the full 60 or 90 minute class as scheduled from start to finish
  • After members have left, go through our Gym Closing procedures and securely lock up the facility

What We Offer:

  • Positive Culture: Join a supportive, non-toxic, and inclusive environment where everyone is valued.
  • Competitive Pay: We offer competitive compensation for your time and expertise. We believe at minimum, people should be paid at or above Toronto’s living wage, and for all the work they do.
  • New Opportunity: The opportunity to shape and grow a nascent BJJ program according to your vision, free from old habits or traditions, supported by a stable business infrastructure.
  • Facilities: Our facility is bright, spacious, and airy, and located steps away from Exhibition TTC & GO Station in Liberty Village.

How to Apply:

Email us at careers@lotusfitness.ca with your resume (yes, we want to know about your non-BJJ education and work background as well!) and tell us about why you think we’d be a great fit for each other!
