We have never had a bacterial/fungal outbreak (generally you need 2 or more linked cases) at Lotus but one of our members has told us that they are on medication for ring worm.
They haven’t trained since and it seems to be a one off case, however, because we’ve never had an outbreak we’ve gotten a bit lax with reminding people about hygiene and training.
Moving forward, we will have a zero tolerance policy for any active infections.
If you notice something on a training partner and are too shy to mention it to them directly, you can always talk to an instructor.

And when training, please ensure the following:
- ✅️ never re-wear workout clothes (fresh, clean, shorts, tops and rashguards only)
- ✅️ never re-use handwraps (always wash handwraps after training)
- ✅️ brush teeth before training sessions (if you are coming straight from work, pack some mouthwash)
- ✅️ hand and toe nails must be trimmed and filed
- ✅️ NEVER train with active infections, open wounds (do you have a small rash? cold sore? these can be highly infectious)
- ✅️ all jewellery must be removed before training
- ✅️ cuts MUST be covered – use antiseptic and bandages to cover all cuts and scrapes
- ✅️ shower after training
- ✅️ BJJ folks (and it would be nice for Muay Thai people as well) shower BEFORE training
- ✅️ ensure you are wearing flip flops when off the mats in our 2nd floor classroom
Let’s continue being one of the cleanest martial arts gym around!!
